During regular office visits relapse prevention will be discussed: how to cope with the stresses of life, how to recognize triggers that promote the use of addictive substances, and how to walk away from situations which re-introduce the person to alchohol or drugs. Dr. Silverman will also refer to out-patient counseling centers that specialize in this type of counseling. These facilities include both group and individual counseling sessions conducted by trained medical social workers and clinical alchohol and substance abuse counselors. Alcoholics Anonymous or Narcotics Anonymous support groups may also be suggested.
